Just for Educators

The Gibbes recognizes teachers as valuable partners in the field of education. To support them, the museum offers a range of programs and resources developed to help teachers forge their own personal connection with the arts while creating an interdisciplinary perspective for their students. This is accomplished by offering a range of programs and resources to educators each exhibition season including the Gibbes Educator’s Institute, Teacher Workshops, Pre-Visit Materials, Educator Passes, and on-line curriculum sharing.

Teacher Workshops
Join the Gibbes’ professional development workshops for K-12 educators. This is a great opportunity for teachers in all disciplines to explore current exhibitions; design interdisciplinary curricula in collaboration with their peers; meet artists, scholars, and writers; and develop an individual relationship with the arts. Everyone who attends will walk away with strategies and materials that can be used in the classroom!

Educators Institute
In collaboration with Charleston galleries, museums, and institutes of learning, the Gibbes presents a comprehensive in-depth Institute for 3rd through 12th grade educators. Through observation and interpretation of the permanent collection and current exhibitions, participants will develop techniques for integrating visual images into the classroom curricula. This multi-session seminar includes gallery tours, lectures by visiting scholars, hands-on workshops, and curriculum development sessions.
